📣 20 October 2026 — The Filipino Australian Health Professionals Inc (FAHPI) is proud to share its new program called "Kabayan Health Compass" (KHC).

Kabayan Health Compass is a proposed community education program that helps newly arrived Filipino migrants understand and confidently navigate the Australian healthcare system. It is designed as the community-facing companion to FAHPI’s existing Clinical Transition & Mentorship Program (CTMP): where CTMP supports Filipino-trained clinicians entering the Australian health workforce, Kabayan Health Compass supports the broader Filipino-Australian community as health consumers.

The program addresses a consistent and recurring gap: migrants arriving with strong health literacy in the Philippine context often find the Australian system — Medicare, the PBS, GP referral pathways, private health insurance, and the public/private divide — unfamiliar and difficult to navigate without guidance. This contributes to delayed care-seeking, underuse of preventive services, and avoidable presentations to emergency departments.
